Former Johnson & Johnson orthopaedics executive who led global R&D and innovation for a $2 billion business and helped integrate the $21.3 billion Synthes acquisition.

Allan brings more than 30 years of leadership experience in the global orthopaedic and medical device industry. Throughout his career, he has played a pivotal role in the development, commercialisation and international expansion of innovative orthopaedic technologies, providing strategic guidance to both multinational corporations and emerging healthcare companies.

Allan previously served as Worldwide Vice President of Research & Development for DePuy Orthopaedics, the orthopaedic division of Johnson & Johnson, where he was a member of the global leadership team responsible for a business generating approximately $2 billion in annual revenues. During his tenure, he held a series of senior leadership positions with increasing responsibility across product development, innovation and international operations.

As Worldwide Vice President of R&D, Allan was responsible for leading global research and development activities across DePuy’s international innovation centres, managing multidisciplinary teams, significant development budgets and complex product portfolios. He played a key leadership role in integrating the DePuy and Synthes innovation organisations following Johnson & Johnson’s landmark $21.3 billion acquisition of Synthes, a transformational transaction that created one of the world’s largest orthopaedic businesses.

Allan has extensive international experience, particularly across Asia, having established and led DePuy’s R&D Innovation Centre in Suzhou, China, where he lived and worked between 2009 and 2013. His experience in global product development, market access and international commercialisation provides valuable insight into the opportunities and challenges associated with scaling innovative medical technologies worldwide.

Since leaving Johnson & Johnson, Allan has worked with numerous healthcare and medical technology companies as a board director, mentor and strategic advisor, helping management teams navigate product development, regulatory strategy, commercialisation and business growth. He has served on the boards of several healthcare and medical technology companies, including Corin Group plc, one of the world’s leading orthopaedic technology companies. His expertise spans orthopaedic implants, medical devices, innovation management and international market development.

As a Non-Executive Director of Bounce Biomedical, Allan provides strategic guidance on product development, clinical translation, regulatory pathways and commercial strategy.
