“ChondroBounce™ offers a truly innovative way to help you Bounce Back to a healthy active lifestyle after joint injuries”
“ChondroBounce™ offers a truly innovative way to help you Bounce Back to a healthy active lifestyle after joint injuries”
Using a minimally invasive procedure, surgeons will implant ChondroBounce™ to heal serious injuries to cartilage and the underlying bone. Once in place, the combination of remarkable mechanical properties and innate regenerative capacity will support both a swift return to full activity and long term replacement by healthy new tissue.
Clinical Track Record Meets Pioneering Materials Science
The robust, resilient, regenerative properties of ChondroBounce™ derive from decades of groundbreaking research on mineral based Bioactive glasses by Professor Julian Jones and his team at Imperial College London. “Bioglass” has a long and highly successful history as a tissue regenerative material used to help regrow human bone and dental tissue. By combining Bioglass with organic polymers used in a wide range of absorbable medical devices, Prof Jones and his colleagues have invented an entirely novel class of “Inorganic-organic” hybrid materials.
ChonrdoBounce™ Implants Harness:
The innovation of “Bouncy BioGlass™” technology
The manufacturing power of 3-D printing production
The sophistication from replicating intricate biological tissue architecture
Bouncy Bioglass™ - Flexible, Tissue Regenerative Glass
Bioglass is formed from brittle minerals and like other types of glass, can crack under high loads such as those experienced in our joints. By introducing networks of long chain organic polymers the researchers at Imperial have invented a much tougher Bioactive glass, named Bouncy Bioglass™. This has smooth, resilient, springy properties very similar to those of the cartilage which covers the ends of bones and helps dissipate forces, enabling smooth movement in joints.
By combining bouncier and stiffer Bioglasses in the same implant, our ChondroBounce™ technology is able to do the job of both the injured cartilage and bone it replaces while simultaneously supporting the patients own body to heal the damage and grow healthy new tissue.
Using the Power and Precision of 3-D Printing
Bouncy Bioglass™ has been developed to allow production by 3D printing, enabling our ChondroBounce™Implants to be manufactured at scale using the very latest precision printing approaches.
This ensures reliable, reproducible, affordable production while enabling our scientists to engineer exceptionally sophisticated detail into the ChondroBounce™ designs. This powerful approach is used to structure ChondroBounce™ implants with metamaterial architectures which specifically promote regeneration of either the cartilage or bone tissues they replace.
Harnessing the Body’s Regenerative Potential
The sophisticated 3D architecture in ChondroBounce™ is allied to an innate capacity in Bouncy Bioglass™ to promote regeneration of cartilage, which is particularly hard to heal. When stem cells are exposed to Bouncy Bioglass™ constructs in laboratory trials they choose to become cartilage cells (blue dots), and deposit proteins associated with healthy cartilage tissue formation (purple).
