James Mallinson, MBA

Experienced venture investor and board director who has helped build and exit some of the UK’s most successful technology and life science companies.
James Mallinson, MBA is a Non-Executive Director of Bounce Biomedical and brings more than 30 years of experience in venture capital, technology commercialisation and company building. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with innovative technology and life science businesses, helping founders and management teams secure funding, scale operations and create shareholder value.
James has been involved in the growth and successful exit of numerous technology companies, including Oxford Immunotec, which completed a successful NASDAQ IPO raising $64 million before being acquired for $595 million in 2021, and NaturalMotion, which was acquired for more than $527 million in 2014. His extensive experience spans venture investing, portfolio management, corporate governance and strategic business development.
In 2018, James joined Oxford Investment Consultants (OIC) as an Investment Partner. OIC manages the Oxford Technology Innovation Fund, a leading investor in university spin-outs and emerging technology businesses. Prior to this, he served as Investment Portfolio Director at Oxford Spin-out Equity Management, where he managed the University of Oxford’s portfolio of equity investments in spin-out companies, helping support the commercialisation of world-class academic research.
Earlier in his career, James held investment roles with Isis Innovation (now Oxford University Innovation) and within the private equity group of Abbey National Treasury Services, where he managed technology venture investments as part of a team responsible for commitments of approximately £1.9 billion. He has also served on the Strategic Advisory Boards of funds managed by Advent Venture Partners and Avlar BioVentures.
James provides strategic guidance on financing, investor engagement, corporate governance and growth strategy. James holds a degree in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford and an MBA from Cranfield University.
