Dr Nick Skaer

Experienced medical biotechnology entrepreneur, company builder, fund raiser and inventor with a track record of taking concept research through to clinical trials.

Dr Nick Skaer is Co-Founder, CEO and Research Director of Bounce Biomedical. An Oxford University-educated scientist, inventor and entrepreneur, Nick has more than 20 years of experience building life science ventures and translating breakthrough research into clinical-stage medical technologies.

Prior to founding Bounce Biomedical, he founded and led Orthox, a regenerative medicine company developing implantable orthopaedic devices, securing over £25 million in equity investment and non-dilutive funding while advancing multiple Class III medical device programmes from concept through preclinical development and into clinical trials.

Nick has founded or co-founded four other venture-backed medical technology companies and has built extensive expertise in biomaterials, regenerative medicine, intellectual property development, fundraising, regulatory strategy and commercialisation.

He is named inventor on more than 50 granted patents worldwide and has secured award of over £12 million in competitive grant funding from organisations including the Wellcome Trust, European Innovation Council, NIHR and Innovate UK.

Nick holds a BSc and MA in Biological Sciences from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Molecular Genetics from the Université Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg, where he was supported by a Marie Curie Personal Fellowship. He subsequently undertook postdoctoral research at the University of Cambridge before moving into life science entrepreneurship.
