Industry focused scientific innovator, manager and leader with profound experience in translating novel technologies into implantable products that can be affordably manufactured to requisite regulatory and quality standards.

Dr Rob Walker is Chief Scientific Officer of Bounce Biomedical, where he leads the company’s scientific strategy, product development and manufacturing programmes. With more than 17 years of experience developing innovative medical technologies, Rob has built a career at the intersection of biomaterials science, engineering biology and clinical translation.

Prior to Bounce Biomedical, Rob served as Chief Scientific Officer at Orthox, where he was responsible for the development and manufacture of regenerative cartilage repair implants and associated surgical instrumentation. During this time, he led multidisciplinary teams spanning research, development and GMP manufacturing, helping to advance multiple Class II and Class III medical device programmes from concept through preclinical development, regulatory approval and clinical investigation. He also played a key role in securing more than £5 million in competitive funding from organisations including the European Innovation Council, EIT Health, NIHR and Innovate UK.

Rob combines deep scientific expertise with extensive experience in quality systems, regulatory affairs and product commercialisation. He has overseen the establishment of ISO 13485-compliant manufacturing processes, managed major development programmes with budgets exceeding £6 million, and successfully delivered products across a range of regenerative medicine and medical device applications. Prior to Orthox, he held scientific and leadership roles at BD Biosciences and Corning Life Sciences, where he contributed to the development and commercial launch of multiple advanced cell culture and life science products.

Rob is an inventor on multiple international patent families covering implantable medical device technologies and has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific publications spanning biomaterials, tissue regeneration and orthopaedic repair. He holds a BSc in Biochemistry and Genetics and a PhD in Genetics from the University of Nottingham.

At Bounce Biomedical, Rob is responsible for translating the company’s Bouncy Bioglass™ platform into scalable, clinically relevant products.
